John Curry Jr. Award

The John Curry Jr. Award is in memory of a  local ice hockey official, John Curry Jr.  John was a dedicated, knowledgeable, hardworking well respected referee, who had a passion for officiating.  The John Curry Jr. Award is given out by RIHOA each season to an individual who exhibits the qualities and passion that John brought to the rink every day.  In John’s memory the placard is located at the SUNY Geneseo College Ice Arena.

John Curry Jr. Award Recipients

I began officiating in 2010.

What I enjoy most about officiating is the exercise on the ice and the comradely with the other officials.  In addition to working youth hockey, I have had the opportunity to work the following leagues: NIHOA, USPHL, SUNYAC, ECAC, CHA, Atlantic Hockey, American Hockey League

Job outside of officiating: Hospitality Management

Congratulations to Gene Choma – 2014 John Curry Jr. Award Recipient.

Pat started officiating when he was 14. Pat works as a technical support at Verizon wireless helping people fix their phone and tablet problems.

Pat enjoys helping to educate kids on the sport of hockey, and enjoys the teamwork and relationships with other officials (along with all of the exercise that comes with it). Currently Pat works in the USA Hockey system, and is looking forward to working other leagues in the future.

Congratulations to Vincent Epping – 2013 John Curry Jr. Award Recipient.
